Whitney Point School District Names New Superintendent to Lead District
The Whitney Point School Board has selected Shannon Pitcher-Boyea to take over the Superintendent of Schools position following Dr. Jo-Ann Sexton's retirement.

Shannon Pitcher-Boyea is stepping into the top administrative position at Whitney Point Central School District, taking the helm on July 1 following the Board of Education's decision on June 16.
The seasoned education professional brings a wealth of experience to the role, with over 20 years in public education and more than a decade and a half managing administrative duties across various school systems and BOCES programs. Pitcher-Boyea currently holds the position of Assistant Superintendent at Peru Central School District, where her responsibilities span curriculum and instruction, student assessment, fiscal planning, staffing decisions, contract negotiations, and recruitment initiatives.
Her career trajectory includes roles as Director of Instructional Support Services, Technology Integration Supervisor, building principal, and Special Education Supervisor. Her track record of working with rural school communities and building strong partnerships within them stands out as a particular strength.
"I'm honored to take on this opportunity to serve the Whitney Point community," Pitcher-Boyea said in a statement. "I'm excited to work alongside educators and families who are committed to helping every student succeed, while respecting the values and traditions that define the district."
The Board undertook an extensive hiring process that gave voice to multiple stakeholder groups. District officials acknowledged the participation of students, teachers, administrators, parents, and community members who shared input throughout the evaluation period.
The district also recognized the contributions of departing Superintendent Dr. Jo-Ann Sexton, noting her years of service and commitment to the organization.
Whitney Point Central School District officials expressed confidence that the appointment will support continued progress in academics and student achievement while maintaining the educational standards the district has established.
