Whitney Point Student Artists Earn Regional Recognition, Prepare for Local Showcase

Whitney Point student artists are making their mark, earning impressive recognition in recent regional competitions and preparing to share their talents with the wider community. These young artists from Whitney Point High School have received top honors for their creative works, bringing pride to the Whitney Point School District.

Several students were celebrated at the 2026 Emerging Artists High School Show & Competition, a juried exhibition co-sponsored by The Fine Arts Society of the Southern Tier (FASST) and the Broome County Arts Council. Alyssa Widdall was presented with the prestigious President's Emerging Artist Award for her painting, "A Little Bit Rusty." Allison Zembek achieved a first-place victory in the mixed media category for her compelling piece, "View from the Visitor's Center," described as a dark silhouette of a man in a massive floor setting. Ms. Zembek’s artwork will also be showcased at the FAAST Members Art Show & Awards Ceremony on May 18 at the Vestal Library, and she will receive a complimentary month-long membership to FAAST. Ava Oliver also earned an Honorable Mention for her charcoal still life, a black and white drawing depicting a pile of books. These students were among seven from Whitney Point High School whose work was featured in this competition, which was on display at the Johnson Watson Cultural Center in Endicott from March 6 to March 31, 2026. Other talented Whitney Point High School students whose art was selected for this esteemed show included Emma Davies with "Apalachin Sunset" (oil on canvas), Mea Davis with "Golden Embers" (pit-fired ceramics), Brooke Feathers with an untitled pit-fired ceramics piece, and Mackenzie Harvey with "Sunrise at the Beach" (ceramics).

Earlier in the year, two Whitney Point High School artists were recognized at the Regional Scholastic Art Awards in January 2026. Mea Davis received a Silver Key Award for her charcoal portrait, “What Lies Within?,” demonstrating her skillful approach to the medium. Arieanna Martin was awarded an Honorable Mention for her vibrant ceramic creation, “ColorJoy of Chaos.” Both outstanding pieces were exhibited at the Arnot Art Museum in Elmira from January 25 through March 13, 2026, allowing a broad audience to appreciate their work.

The community will have a special opportunity to view these and other student artworks from across the district at the upcoming 2026 District Art Show. This annual event will be held at the High School Gymnasium on June 3, 2026, from 3-8 p.m., and on June 4, 2026, from 3-7 p.m. The show will feature artwork from all three Whitney Point Central School District buildings, showcasing the artistic development and creativity of students at every level. Supporting these young artists is a wonderful way to celebrate the vibrant culture within our schools and community.
